The Journal of American Institute for Conservation (JAIC) seeks submissions for a special issue on the topic of “Sustainability within Conservation and Collections Care.” The issue will cover the ways in which conservators and collections care professionals in both institutional and private practices are experiencing the effects of our changing climate and adapting their practices to be more sustainable.


Survey on "Alligatoring in Oil Paintings"

This survey is part of a PhD thesis, taking place at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of the NOVA School of Science and Technology, that explores an oil paint defect referred to as "Alligatoring" or "Bitumen Cracking".
The aim is to address the following questions regarding the perception of this defect:
Is this phenomenon well recognised?
Is it considered to be widespread?
What do people see as the dominant characteristics of this type of defect?

Description: The Cleveland Museum of Art announces an opening for a Fellow in Chinese Paintings Conservation, made possible through the generous support of June and Simon K.C. Li. In 2018, CMA established the June and Simon K. C. Li Center for Chinese Painting Conservation, which has become a leader among North American institutions to advance the field of Chinese paintings conservation. This position begins no earlier than January 2022 and is a full-time, 18-month appointment.

The Library of Congress Junior Fellows program is now accepting applications for Summer 2022 (from May 23 through July 29, 2022), with a project available in the Preservation Research and Testing Division. All projects are planned to be conducted entirely remotely and pay rates will vary with locality ($13.45 to $16.41 per hour).
